Metaphors Are
By Shanna Frame
Metaphors are confusion
In literary form
They are the writer’s attempt
To unravel simplicity
Confound the mind
To unlock depths of unopened explorations
To force the reader to see
The impossible
Metaphors are the impossible
Caught on paper
Comparing life to water
Eyes to stars
And chosen opposites
Which they believe
Fit fluently together
To form an image of the unknown
Metaphors are the incomprehensible Art of
Mind and pen together
Flowing on paper
Fluently creating the deepest
Secrets of the heart
Often seen as worthless and odd
But when dusted and cleaned
Of all obstructions of view
They show what is unseen by the naked eye
Enhancing the vision of the few who
Choose to take a chance and
Look through them
With an ache and passion
To work past confusion
Into the incomprehensible
To see all the potential of
An Impossible Art
Black
By Shanna Frame
Black
The absence of light; Darkness
The center of all grief
Fear; The snap of a twig
In the middle of nowhere
A growl in silence
A harsh word; a bruise
Desolation, Destruction
Clasped hands torn apart
The damp, dank smell of loneliness
Lost in unfamiliarity
Unforgiving gravel pierces raw feet
The lingering smell of charred
Childhood dreams
The bitter mixture of
Defeat, Dirt, and Blood
The unquenchable lust for the inevitable
Slowly the world fades
Gasping for air
Grasping nothingness
Holding onto all that is left
The absence of light; Darkness

I See You
By Shanna Frame
I See You
So young,
Unblemished by pain,
Such clear innocence
Life is simple and kind,
You feel ready to face the world
Your life will change so quickly
A week is all it takes
One moment for tomorrow
To change forever
I see you
As you walk along your path
Your climb will not be easy
Storms will cross your way
Rocks will pierce your soul
Winds will push you down
But you will keep going
Pulling, crawling, standing
Always pushing forward
You will struggle to grab hold
Years will come and pass
And just when you have got it
It will slip from your grasp
Be strong little one
Take joy in small successes
Look back on where you’ve traveled
And stay from where you’ve been
I see you
Innocence fading
All that you will accomplish
The world is racing to face you
See your strength
Lost Trains
By Shanna Frame
Hum, drum, fum, blum
My mind bumbles through ideas
Bumping into lost trains
Lost trains
Where do they go?
Lost trains
One moment they’re there
The next they’re gone.
Lost trains oh where have you left me?
I’m lost in my trains
What shall I do?
Maybe,
Or maybe not.
Or …
Clickety Clack, clickety Clack
Yes, no, maybe so
Yes, no, maybe so
Where
Who
Hmmmm….
Lost trains are taking me nowhere
Yet, nowhere, is that somewhere?
Hum, drum, fum, blum
My beautiful lost trains
My wonderful, magnificent …
Crash!!!
Galoshes
By Shanna Frame
My Galoshes are the Best
All poke-a-dot purple
They squeak,
They squak,
They squish,
They even kind of squirtle!
They eek,
They awk,
They squash
As I jump into a puddle,
And even when the fun is done
They mutter
And they mumble!
And that is why they are the Best,
That’s why I love them most,
Cause My Galoshes
Are all My Own
Unstoppable
Hodgepodge, mishmash, muddle! My Blankie
By Shanna Frame
I pull you close
You wrap your arms around me
Enclose me with your warmth
You stay with me
I come to you with anything
You hold me throughout everything
My best friend now and forever
Until one day I see through your perfection
A small hole where flawlessness once lay
I need more than you can offer
My love begins to fade
I see how I must now move on
You can no longer stay
There is no warmth left in your hugs
No protection in embrace
Your love for me is gone
Between us there is a widening space
You no longer look your best for me
I’ll no longer take you out
Your hygiene is now questionable
But it’s more than what can’t be washed out
I cannot stand it any longer
I must let you go today
Please just try to understand
We must go our separate ways
Some things stain forever
As you have stained my heart
I’ll remember the fun we had
Even though we had to part
